Nokia Lumia 1520 Review – Massive Windows Phone with Snapdragon Processor

Nokia’s Lumia series smartphones had done pretty good job and saved the brand from getting totally exhausted. If we just forget about all Lumia smartphones for a minute then Nokia can easily go down even below than where BlackBerry stands right now.

Recently Nokia did an event in which they announced two giant devices. The first Lumia inspired Windows OS running tablet and the first phablet running Windows Phone OS. I’m going to talk here about phablet which I used for a week.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is the new giant Windows Phone which runs latest version of OS developed by Microsoft and also the fastest smartphone processor manufactured by Qualcomm.

Nokia Lumia 1520 Review

Nokia has definitely gone viral by keeping the display size to 6 inch and now Nokia Lumia 1520 is the biggest smartphone running on Windows Phone OS. Nokia knows very well that users are reacting well on Phablet sized smartphones and now they also want to use this fact. I’m here with Nokia Lumia 1520 review so that you can know whether this giant Windows smartphone is worth or not.

Nokia Lumia 1520 Review

The front part of the Nokia Lumia 1520 is identical to Lumia 720 which is already doing great job in the market while the rear part looks exactly like Lumia 925 which is an updated model of Lumia 920. This is how Nokia Lumia 1520 is formed and don’t expect that Nokia had done some dedicated home work. Although these days it’s very hard to see a uniquely designed smartphone and Nokia Lumia 1520 is another example.

Like any other Lumia smartphone, Nokia Lumia 1520 is available in yellow, white, red and black color options. The build quality is good and device feels very glossy. It’s made up of polycarbonate.

It measures 8.7mm in thickness but it’s extremely heavy than you can expect. It weighs 209 grams and if we add 100 grams more than we can reach to the weight of a 7 inch tablet. Although the display is just one inch smaller than 7 inch tablet but still Nokia should have done some home work to bring weight down.

The 6 inch giant display is added on IPS LCD panel which offers resolution of 1080×1920 pixles. Although the pixel density is just 367 ppi but still this display offers high quality. You can see content easily through wide viewing angles thanks to Nokia’s ClearBlack display.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 is among the best smartphone display till now. You’re not going to find any lag or you can’t even see a single pixel with naked eyes on the display.

With Snapdragon 800 quad core processor clocked at 2.2GHz, Nokia Lumia 1520 is a power booster. You are not going to find any other smartphone running Windows Phone OS which can compete with Nokia Lumia 1520.

There is 2GB of RAM inside along with 32GB of internal storage. Users can also expand the storage up to 64GB via microSD card. Microsoft is also offering free SkyDrive storage of 7GB.

It runs latest version of Windows Phone 8 OS which is still missing quality apps but you can do all smartphone kind of work easily. The battery life is also good as of any other Nokia phone.

Nokia Lumia 1520 user Review

Nokia Lumia 1520 is having mini version of rear camera of Lumia 1020. It’s having 20MP rear camera with Carl Zeiss optics and optical images stabilization. There is also dual LED flash at rear part while the front is having 1.2MP camera which is also capable of recording HD quality videos.

It captures two version of each picture. One of 5MP size for social sharing and other of 20MP size, the picture and video quality are good but the camera software is slower than you can expect. You can easily miss the shot if device is in sleep mode as camera will take around 3-4 seconds to take shot.

Nokia has added support for LTE and all previous generation cellular data standards. Nokia Lumia 1520 also got dual band Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth (4.0) and microUSB port for data connectivity.

Wrap up

Nokia Lumia 1520 looks great as any other Lumia smartphone and its display is gorgeous. The device is powerful booster and still carrying good battery life but its camera software is little slower in functionality. Windows Phone is still missing quality apps which you can find easily on Android or iOS market.
