In Q3 2013, Nokia launched its Lumia 625 smartphone running on Microsoft Windows Phone 8 OS. This smartphone is under mid range budget category and it combines the features of Lumia 720 and 820.
Although Lumia 520 is still the best budget smartphone and so does the Lumia 720 but as Lumia 625 is available as an option so users get confused easily. I’m here with Lumia 625 review and I’ll clear here whether its best budget phone or not.
Nokia Lumia 625 Review
With a price tag of Rs 17,619 in Indian market, Lumia 625 is like an option for those who want to buy a smartphone between the range of Lumia 520 and 720. There is another reason why users should go for Lumia 625 which are,
- This device is new.
- It got bigger display size.
According to lots of surveys and market results, Indian customers are going more for phablet sized smartphones than the smaller one and Nokia don’t want to be on the back from burning this opportunity.

Lumia 625 is a replacement for Lumia 620 and it also got lots of upgraded features. Nokia has stretched the display to corners thus they were able to put larger display without increasing overall size of the device. The back panel can be replaced and users are provided freedom to change color of their phone.
The body is made up of plastic but it feels good in hand as it got matte finish. The overall design of Lumia 625 is almost same as of any other Lumia smartphone. Nokia is providing few color options like orange, green, black, white and yellow and overall design of Lumia 625 is good.
The display size is 4.7 inch which makes Lumia 625 one of the biggest sized Lumia smartphone. Although we got Lumia 1520 now as the bigger brother but still Lumia 625 is bigger than all of its previous siblings.
The display is added on IPS LCD panel and it provides resolution of 480×800 pixels. The pixel density is low (199ppi) and it makes display to look little weird sometimes.
Unlike all other Lumia smartphone, Lumia 625 doesn’t have ClearBlack feature which clearly means that the display isn’t that great but still good as per the price tag is concerned.
The processor inside is a Snapdragon dual core clocked at 1.2GHz which is provided with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. In the current era, most of the games demand 1GB of RAM and this simply means that you’re going to miss them out here.
Users can expand the storage up to 64GB and Microsoft is also offering free 7GB of SkyDrive storage. Don’t go for Lumia 625 if you’re looking for some power booster smartphone as it will disappoint you but for normal phone user, it will never say no to you.
The OS is Microsoft Windows Phone 8 which is still not having quality apps as Android and iOS market are having. In performance view, OS is good and it also look good but I was missing lots of my favorite Android apps.
Lumia 625 got 5MP shooter at back and VGA at front. The rear camera is capable of recording full HD quality videos but to me the quality wasn’t impressive at all. It was neither having PureView technology nor the CarlZeiss certified camera, I really missed these two features.
LTE is there in Lumia 625 which is another attraction but in India LTE is not yet available even in major cities so users have to rely on 3G or 2G network only. Other features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB port are all there in it.
With an impressive battery life of 16 hours talktime over 3G and bigger display size, Lumia 625 is surely a good smartphone but it may have been better if Nokia could have used better display and camera quality technologies. According to me, it isn’t the best budget Windows Phone.
