HTC Desire 501 Review – Dual SIM, Android Jelly Bean and 4.3 inch Display

Hello friends, I know you’re a big fan of HTC Android smartphones but you’ve been disappointed with the performance of HTC in the market. They have not been manufacturing a good number of smartphones in the year 2013 but with the start of 2014 there will be new smartphones from HTC.

HTC recently launched HTC Desire 501 which is an Android smartphone having support for Dual SIM cards. I’m here with a HTC Desire 501 review so that you can find whether this new smartphone from HTC is worth or not.

HTC Desire 501 Review

The Desire series of smartphones of HTC have been always in the mid range price category and earlier they were doing well in the market. But HTC refusal to provide them Android update hurt the users a lot.

Let see whether Desire 501 can bring the charm back or not.

I’ve been a big fan of the design of HTC smartphones and I always recommended my friends to go for HTC smartphones due to their unique and very impressive design. HTC has done the same quality work in the Desire 501 as well.

Desire 501 Review

The rear look of Desire 501 is so impressive that it will attract you for sure. The front of the Desire 501 is very simple along with a long bar speaker on the front and a front facing camera while the rear part has got impressive design.

The rear part got a check box design which is giving a unique and very professional look to the device. There is a camera along with LED flash on the back while there is beats audio branding down there on the back portion.

The Desire 501 has got 4.3inch display with a resolution of 480×800 pixels which clearly means that device is capable of playing HD quality videos easily. The pixel density is near to 217 ppi which means that the display quality is really good and in real life it was awesome at wider viewing angles.

Desire 501 operates on dual core 1.2GHz processor which is supported by 1GB of AM and 8GB of internal storage. Users are provided option to expand the storage up to 32GB using microSD card while the CPU is provided with a good amount of storage.

During my testing, I didn’t found any lag in the performance but when I opened lots of apps then the device became little slower than earlier, though it’s not a major problem.

It runs on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean version which has been added with HTC Sense version 5.0. The software developed by HTC using Android has been already very useful and good and the same thing has been repeated again.

Desire 501 got 8MP rear camera along with LED flash and lots of features like face detection, geo tagging, smile detection, autofocus and simultaneous HD video and image recording. The front camera has got 2.1MP sensor. Both the cameras are capable of recording HD quality videos and the camera app of the phone was responding to my touch within microseconds (almost instantly). In short, the picture quality was impressive.

It got 3G cellular data network support along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC as well. There is a microUSB port as well in the phone. The Wi-Fi direct, hotspot and DLNA features are also included. So the device is completely packed with all major data connectivity features.

Wrap up

HTC included battery of 2100mAh size in the box of Desire 501 which helps the device to get battery life of 16 hours. The device can make a day easily with general usage.

According to me, Desire 501 is a good option if you’re looking for a mid range smartphone with a unique and impressive design but HTC still behind Samsung in terms of software quality.
